BOOK REVIEW: 100 MUST READ HISTORICAL NOVELS BY NICK RENNISON

100 Must Read Historical Novels by Nick Rennison

Bookseller, editor and freelance writer Nick Rennison has gathered the most read historical novels into one pocket-sized book.

Starting with an About This Book explains that the books are arranged in alphabetical order with a list of 100 entries, the authors' name and the book title after it. After those couple of pages, is a page worth of information about each of the novels in turn and, of course their writers and the effect they had politically at the time of publishing.

Some of the recommended reads are:

Shogun by James Clavell
Sharpe's Eagle by Bernard Cornwell
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco
I, Claudius by Robert Graves
Flashman by George MacDonald Fraser.
The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl
A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters
The Praise Singer by Mary Renault
Fingersmith by Sarah Waters
Perfume by Patrick Suskind
Memories of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar
